Using virtual cards
Issuing Visa / Mastercard / Discover virtual cards from your account balance, end to end:
- Pick a BIN: rates, minimum top-up and intended use differ per BIN, and BINs are searchable by number
- Issuing and top-ups bill your account balance; number, expiry, CVV and 3DS code are all visible live in the console
- Card actions: top up (percentage fee), freeze and unfreeze (operation fee each way), return card balance while keeping the card
- Closing needs the issuing bank to confirm — usually 1-2 days, up to about two weeks — after which the card balance returns automatically
- The billing address must match the cardholder details on file; issuers run an AVS check and a mismatch is declined
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the balance go when a virtual card is closed?
Back to your platform account balance. Closing needs the issuing bank to confirm, usually 1-2 days and up to about two weeks, and the return is automatic afterwards. A zero balance produces no refund.
What is the difference between freezing and closing?
Freezing is temporary — the card cannot be charged but can be unfrozen at any time, with an operation fee each way. Closing is permanent: the card is void and its balance returns once the bank confirms.
